Norfolk Island & Lord Howe Island

Norfolk Island is one of Australia’s external territories, which was granted self-government in 1979.

It is located 1,600km north east of Sydney in the South Pacific Ocean and is one and a half hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time. It has duty free shopping and is not covered by Medicare.

It is an eroded remnant of a basaltic volcano, enjoys a mild subtropical climate and features coral reefs and rainforests.

Norfolk Island was sighted by Captain Cook in 1774 and named after the Duchess of Norfolk. It has had a colourful history, being established as a penal settlement twice and then settled by a group of Pitcairn Islanders, descended from the Bounty Mutineers.

This island tropical enjoys a laid back lifestyle and is a perfect island paradise retreat for holidays. Locations on this island include: Cascade, Middlegate, Kingstone, Burnt Pine, Anson Bay, Bucks Point and Ball Bay.

Lord Howe Island

Lord Howe Island is located 700km north east of Sydney in the Tasman Sea and only 2 hours by air from Sydney and Brisbane.

Lord Howe Island is World Heritage Listed for its rare collection of plants, birds, marine life and exceptional beauty. It is two thirds covered by natural forest and is the southern most coral-reef in the world. Lord Howe Island is 11kms by 2kms and is the result of a volcanic eruption millions of years ago and enjoys a subtropical climate with warm water currents.

Lord Howe Island was discovered by Lieutenant Ball and named after the First Lord of the Admiralty, Lord Howe. Settlement was first established in 1834 and its economy has moved from whaling to Kentia Palm propagation and tourism. Locations on this island include: Old Settlement Beach, Lagoon Beach, Neds Beach, Middleton Beach, North Bay, Salmon Beach and Blinky Beach.

With its crystal clear waters, pristine beaches and sparkling lagoon protected by the reef, Lord Howe Island is a perfect holiday destination. You are assured a peaceful and relaxing break, as only 400 visitors are allowed on the island at any one time and there is no mobile phone reception.
