Back Forest Retreat offers two beautiful mudbrick cottages close to the Shoalhaven River, Seven Mile Beach and Berry, just two hours south of Sydney. Come and feast your eyes on calm cows grazing in green paddocks, put your boat in at the ramp just a few hundred metres away, or walk for miles along a deserted beach. There are two cottages have two bedrooms and a loft, self-contained, mudbrick, passive solar design, wood-lined cathedral ceilings, wheelchair-accessible, gas stove, rainwater, instant hot water, photo-voltaic electricity. The cottages are snug because they were built along passive solar principles. Most of the windows face north to let in the winter sun and there are wide eaves to block out the summer sun. Mudbricks give the cottages a high thermal mass to store heat and smooth out the day-night temperature variation. We have also used woolen insulation sourced locally. Timber venetian blinds and wall-length curtains are used to control heat loss and gain. We provide linen, pillows and bedding - when you arrive, all you need do is make yourself a cup of real coffee or tea and then off to bed! Each cottage has queen-sized, double and single beds with room for one in the loft. Other amenities include: Open-plan living; Barbecue and bushslab-table for outdoor dining; room; TV, DVD & Video library; Fridge, oven and Microwave; Wheelchair accessible; CD player; Electric blanket, fans and gas heater; Washing machine.
