Casuarina Coastal Units are situated at the far end of American River, quiet even by Kangaroo Island standards! We are about 3 minutes walk from the lagoon with beautiful views across to Island Beach and the mainland in the far distance. Pennington Bay, which is a great surf beach for swimming and beach fishing is about 10 minutes drive away. The general store/petrol station/bottle shop, which sells most of your day to day needs, is about 10 minutes walk away. If you don't feel like cooking there are restaurants in the area, or you can go further afield to Kingscote or Penneshaw. On Friday evenings, we particularly recommend a visit to The Shed for a very reasonably priced meal and a chat with the locals. We believe that we offer the best value accommodation in American River. Budget in price but not in comfort. We are new to the accommodation and post office business, but our aim is to provide a friendly service and clean budget accommodation to all travellers.Don't underestimate the time you'll need to see Kangaroo Island. It's about 155Km east to west and varies from 2Km to 45Km north to south. Seeing the island properly is not a task for a day! As much of the wildlife, which is one of the main drawcards, is nocturnal we recommend that you stay at least 2 nights. Most evenings we have Tammar Wallabies on our lawns and possums in the trees. An echidna visits occasionally.
