Barachel Alpacas located at Port Giles, near Wool Bay, was established in 1994 as the first alpaca stud on South Australias Yorke Peninsula. Part of the 550 hectare sheep and cropping property Fairview, established by the Daniell family in 1875, it offers a picturesque view which overlooks St. Vincents Gulf towards the Mount Lofty Ranges behind Adelaide. Today this aristocrat of animals and its fibre are available for Australians to enjoy. Alpaca comes in a range of natural colours from white though fawns, browns and greys to black. Warm, strong and resilient, alpaca is made into garments which feel soft and silky yet are durable with excellent thermal properties.
