Grand Pacific Drive
Sea Cliff Bridge We thought a trip to the Illawarra coast would make the weekend seem like a bit of an adventure. First stop was Bald Hill Lookout at Stanwell Park, where we witnessed some skilled hang gliders launching themselves from the cliff top. From here we had a distant view of the Sea Cliff Bridge, which forms part of the Grand Pacific Drive, linking Coalcliff and Clifton around the Illawarra escarpment. You can park your car and enjoy an exhilarating walk over this amazing structure. Allow approximately one hour for the 2.4 km round trip and lookout for Humpback whales on their northern migration during June & July. This new section of road opened in 2005, replaced the old crumbling section, which suffered frequent rock falls. We concluded the day witnessing another aerial adventure at Fairy Meadow to the south, where a group of tandem sky divers were landing in a park close to the beach. Their birds-eye view of this beautiful coastline could only be imagined, well this time anyway. |
