Gunlom Falls NT
Infinity pool Gunlom Falls Arriving in Kakadu National Park in May for the beginning of the dry season meant that some roads were still closed. We had hoped to take a 4WD trip to Jim Jim Falls & Twin Falls, but this was not possible, so instead we chose an alternative tour to Motor Car Falls and Gunlom Falls in the southern area of Kakadu National Park. Motor Car Falls was a moderate walk through open woodlands to a waterfall, pool, rainforest and shaded rocky outcrop, where we stopped for morning tea. Quite a number of other walkers shared the joy of swimming under the waterfall with us. We returned to the 4WD and headed to Gunlom camping area, where there is a waterfall and large pool within short walking distance from the car park, but instead we opt for a very steep and rocky climb to the top falls. The climb proves well worthwhile, with a magnificent view and the most beautiful elevated infinity pool that nature could provide. Here we have lunch on the sandy banks and relax in the smaller falls with considerably less people. Despite the workout on your knees on the descent, this experience is definitely worth the effort. |
