Singing Ship at Emu Park

The Singing Ship Monument

The Singing Ship Monument

There is an onshore breeze most days at Emu Park, just south of Yeppoon, on the Capricorn Coast of QLD. This is fortunate, for on the headland overlooking Keppel Bay and Great Keppel Island, stands a forty foot high, white steel and concrete sculpture of a ship, which sings in the breeze. Completed in 1970, to commemorate Captain Cook’s Bi-Centenary, the ship contains pipes with various sized perforations, which create the singing sound. The views are magnificent from this headland, and it is only a short walk to some of the great beaches around Emu Park.
