The Daintree Rainforest
Aerial Walkway Discovery Rainforest Centre The Daintree Rainforest is located in the Wet Tropics of Northern Queensland and experiences higher rainfall than anywhere else in Australia, so it was no surprise that on the day of our visit it was raining. The Daintree Discovery Centre consists of an Interpretive Display Centre, Aerial Walkway, Canopy Tower, DVD Theatre, Elevated Boardwalk and Eco Shop. With the aid of ponchos we journeyed from the forest floor to the top of the canopy. The Audio Guides, available in 6 languages, enabled us to spot figs, ferns, palms, flowers, fruits and a great number of tree species. If it hadn’t been quite so wet we could possibly have also seen flying foxes, butterflies, marsupials, reptiles and birds including the new cassowary chicks. We learnt about bush medicines by sharing in the culture of the local Aboriginal people, the Kuku Yalangi. The friendly staff at this magnificent centre, are extremely passionate about the Daintree Rainforest, which is the world’s oldest continuous (through the Ice Age) rainforest on Earth. |
