Whalers Way
Theakstone’s Crevasse The weather was good, so we decided we would camp in our tent at Cape Carnot, also known as Whalers Way, located just 32km south of Port Lincoln. As Whalers Way is located on private property, we paid for a visitors permit and key deposit at the Information Centre in Port Lincoln. We decided to pitch the tent at Groper Bay, which had BBQ and toilet facilities, although Redbank has beach access. The road is dirt and camping quite basic, but we had come to see the rugged coastal cliff scenery and ocean swells. We were overwhelmed by the variety of formations and wildlife: cliffs, blowholes, rock pools, caves, crevasse, beaches, sea-stack at Cape Wiles with fur seal colony, emus, kangaroos, galahs and if you visit in Sep-Oct whales. The most dramatic though, was Teakstone’s Crevasse, a deep fissure along a fault line and the magnificent beach cave. |
