Flinders Chase National Park Kangaroo Island

Flinders Chase National Park at the western end of KI is definitely worth the 167km drive from the ferry at Penneshaw. Once there, a ten minute boardwalk leads you past rugged coastal cliffs to Admirals Arch, a spectacular archway which is home to a colony of NZ fur seals. At the top of the car park is the beautiful sandstone Cape du Couedic Lighthouse built in 1858, nearby are the beautifully restored Lighthouse Keeper Cottages, which are available for overnight stays. A short drive away are the sculpted granite boulders known as Remarkable Rocks, a stunning geological feature which resembles a lions head, this natural attraction is also wheelchair friendly. On the way back stop off at beautiful Hanson Bay, which has a spectacular sandy beach popular for swimming and fishing. Just outside the National Park is Seal Bay Conservation Park, where you can take a guided or self guided walk to view the Australian sea-lions lazing on the beach. You may be fortunate, as we were and see a mother feeding her pup in the shade of the boardwalk.
